North Central EMS Institute dba, The Savvik Foundation

Description:

The North Central EMS Institute (NCEMSI) is a Minnesota non-profit corporation with charity 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service. It was founded in 2000 by board members of the North Central EMS Cooperative.

NCEMSI is governed by a volunteer board of directors and receives income from individuals, corporations, and governments. Its efforts are primarily concentrated in research, benchmarking, education, performance of EMS systems and fostering collaboration among national and international groups.

NCEMSI is the main sponsor of the International Roundtable on Community Paramedicine (IRCP). The 10th annual IRCP meeting was held in Reno, Nevada, United States, in September 2014. The 11th annual IRCP meeting will be in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on October 13-14, 2015. In 2008 NCEMSI copyrighted a “Community Paramedic” curriculum that was developed in collaboration with universities in the US, Canada and Australia. The curriculum is provided free of charge to any accredited college or university worldwide. The curriculum is currently in version 3, which was released in May 2012. Version 4 will be released in early 2016. In Fall 2011 we released the “Community Paramedic Program Manual”, a guide for communities and ambulance services to use in developing a Community Paramedic program. The manual has been downloaded from the internet an average of five times per day, every day, since October 17, 2011.

In 2014, we have commissioned a research study of our EMS Benchmarking Initiative. In partnership with the Center for Leadership, Innovation and Research in EMS and the Paramedic Chiefs of Canada NCEMSI has been collecting benchmarking data from EMS providers across the country since 2002 and we expect the analysis will provide opportunities for best practices for EMS services.
